Wreaths are timeless symbols of warmth, welcome, and creativity. Creating your own wreath not only allows you to add a personalized touch to your home but also lets you unleash your creativity.
Here's a little extra perk: it's actually way easier than you might imagine! Keep reading for a step-by-step guide and a comprehensive list of the decorative elements I used to bring my holiday wreath to life.
SUPPLY LIST
Wreath Base: Choose a wreath base that suits your style. Options include grapevine, wire, or foam wreath forms. I like working with grapevine as it offers natural aesthetics, durability and is easy to work with. An 18-inch wreath is typically an ideal size for hanging on a door, above a mantle, or on a wall. If you require a smaller size, here are my recommended options:
14 inch wreath - $18
16 inch wreath - $18
18 inch wreath - $20
Foliage: Select an assortment of greenery, flowers, or foliage based on your theme. I used a mix of textures and colors to add visual interest. Feel free to split any stem into two pieces if you'd like to distribute some of your foliage in multiple locations on your wreath.
Preserved Dried Eucalyptus (1) - $9
Natural Ting Bunches (1) - $13
Baby's breath black stem - 8Pcs (1) - $12
Iced Cotton Stem (1) - $12
White Billy Ball Stem (1) - $5
Laceleaf Stem (1) - $8
Milo Berry Bunch (1) - $17
Wire Cutters: Essential for trimming stems and securing elements to the wreath.
Floral Wire (or not): So, we've got two methods to choose from here. The first one involves using floral wire to connect your selected greenery and decorations to the wreath base. The second one, which is the one I went for, involves directly inserting the stem into the grapevine. It provides a more natural and seamless look, making the process easier.
Decorative Elements: Use items such as pinecones, berries or even ornaments, to enhance your wreath.
Pinecone Garland (1) - $17
Gold Berry Stem (1) - 10pcs - $18
DIRECTIONS
Step 1: Prepare Your Wreath Base
If you're using a foam wreath form, wrap it in ribbon or leave it natural, depending on your design. For grapevine or wire bases, ensure they are sturdy and ready to hold your decorations.
Step 2: Trim and Arrange Greenery
Using wire cutters, trim your greenery into manageable sections and secure them on the wreath base. Experiment with placement until you achieve a balanced and visually appealing design. If you're not sure where to begin, just dive in! It might seem a bit odd at first, but it'll take shape as you go along.
Step 4: Add Decorative Elements
Integrate decorative elements like pinecones and golden berry stems into your design. Secure these items on the grapevine wreath, ensuring they are evenly distributed.
Step 5: Finishing Touches
Stand back and assess your wreath. Make any necessary adjustments to achieve the desired balance and symmetry (or asymmetry, in this case). If you've used any wire, trim off any excess and make sure all the elements are securely fastened.
Step 6: Hang and Enjoy
Once you're satisfied with your creation, find the perfect spot to display your wreath. Hang it on your front door, above the mantelpiece, or as a charming focal point in any room.
Making a wreath is a delightful and rewarding craft that allows you to express your creativity. Whether you're crafting a wreath for a specific season or occasion, follow these steps and let your imagination blossom. Your handcrafted wreath will not only add a personal touch to your space but also serve as a warm welcome for all who enter.
Happy crafting!
